Anticipated Opening: Technical Theater Coordinator and Middle School Technical Theater Teacher

POSITION - Anticipated Opening: Technical Theater Coordinator and Middle School Technical Theater Teacher -  Academic Year (full time)

Austin Prep, a Catholic independent school located in Reading, Massachusetts about 20 miles north of Boston invites nominations, expressions of interest, and applications for a full-time, flexible hours, Technical Theater Coordinator with teaching responsibilities beginning in the 2017-2018 academic year.

Some essential qualifications include:

  • Experience in theater arts, including technical theater, set design and construction, stage managing, lighting, sound, event planning and execution for theater, chorus, and dance performances
  • Experience in supporting school events (such as Masses, dances, ceremonies, speakers) providing lighting, music, sound, scenery, backstage management, support, and organization
  • Experience in the curricular design and coordination of student involvement in a Technical Theater/Event Production course
  • Demonstrated success in working with both Middle and Upper School learners
  • Ability to work cooperatively with faculty and members of the leadership team
  • A bachelor’s degree (a master’s degree is preferred)

Teacher - Mandarin

POSITION - Mandarin Teacher -  Academic Year

  • Native or near-native fluency in Mandarin
  • Experience in curriculum development and strong familiarity with best practices in foreign language instruction

School Psychologist

POSITION - School Psychologist -  Academic Year 

Austin Prep, a Catholic independent school located in Reading, Massachusetts about 15 miles north of Boston invites nominations, expressions of interest, and applications for a full-time School Psychologist beginning in the 2017-2018 academic year. A school psychologist oversees learning, developmental, socio-emotional, and psychological issues which could include dealing with urgent matters as they arise, meeting/observing students, providing support/workshops to teachers, school leadership, and parents regarding such issues, or referring students for outside support. The counselor responds to student needs that impact their learning, their well-being at school, and their school social environment. 

Some essential responsibilities include: 

  • Administer social, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral counseling for students
  • Communicate with parents, faculty, and administration regarding students of concern
  • Organize programs that foster academic and social development
  • Provide professional development for faculty and staff as appropriate
  • Build curriculum to address students’ personal growth and development socially, emotionally, and academically
  • Educate and counsel parents of school students on ways to relate better with students to help them develop academically and socially
  • Develop parent education programs to address topical issues related to academics as well as socio-emotional learning
  • Provide professional development and resources for faculty
  • Develop individualized Accommodation Plans for students with learning differences
  • Show demonstrated success in working with both Middle and Upper School learners
  • Consult with other mental health agencies and other health professionals with regard to mental health issues.
  • Assist in locating emergency services for students and families in psychological crisis.
  • Provide short term, diagnostically oriented interventions with students and/or families if necessary.
  • Assess difficulties of referred students through appropriate testing and diagnostic practices.
  • Serve as a consultant on mental health topics for faculty
  • Interpret the school psychological services to teachers and parents.
  • Prepare, submit and interpret reports on all students assessed to parents and teachers

Skills and Requirements

Per Diem substitute teachers

Responsibilities include monitoring four 75-minute classes per day: take attendance, direct students’ completion of assignments left for them, maintain an atmosphere conducive to quiet individual or small group study as prescribed in the assignment, supervise students at special events during the school day such as Masses, pep rallies, or assemblies.
