Visit Campus Today for Spring Fest
Today is a big day on campus as we celebrate Spring Fest 2024. Come out and support our teams and make it a great day!
Record Attendance for Grandparents Days
Students offered prayers and reflections during Wednesday (left) and Thursday (right) Grandparents Days.
Austin Prep welcomed over 400 grandparents to campus this week for two days of the ever popular Grandparents Day. Grandparents arrived for continental breakfast and fellowship, before being joined by their Austin Prep grandchildren for a special prayer service in Richard J. Meelia '67 Hall. The days celebrating the special bond between grandparent and grandchild concluded with a grandchild-led tour of campus.
During the prayer services Dr. Hickey acknowledged the impact that grandparents have on the lives of our Austin Prep students. "As grandparents, you are important in the lives of our students. And as a result, you are important to us."

Next Community Mass is Tomorrow
We look forward to hosting our next monthly Sunday Community Mass tomorrow, May 5th at 9:30 a.m. in the Chapel of St. Augustine.
We encourage our school families who regularly attend Sunday Mass at their local parish to consider joining us for this monthly Sunday Mass. The Mass will give us an opportunity to meet each other and pray together. We will join for a time of fellowship in the Dining Hall after Mass. To help us with our planning, we would ask families to RSVP by clicking here so we can take an appropriate count for the Coffee and Donut Hour.
Students are required to attend with their parents. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday as we strengthen each other through this act of celebrating Mass together.
Final Call to Serve as a Sponsor or Auction Donor for Annual Golf Open
A special thank you to longtime Austin Prep Open Golf Tournament sponsors Pimentel Construction and Quirk Construction Corp.
We are excited to note that the flight of golfers is full for the 36th Annual Austin Prep Open Golf Tournament! That said, there is still time to support the event with a company or family sponsorship or auction item donation. Information about supporting the event can be found here.
The proceeds from the Austin Prep Open have always helped ensure that Austin Prep students are provided with extra-curricular activities, community and faith. Your participation and support makes extraordinary possible at Austin Prep.
Please contact Ms. Susan Belanger, Assistant Head of School for Administration and Special Projects with any questions about the event.

In recent years, Bishop Mark has served as the celebrant at our First Responder Blue Mass, Convocation and Baccalaureate Masses, and perhaps most notably, Austin Prep's Baccalaureate Liturgy for the Class of 2020, which was our first opportunity to come together as a community after the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered schools across the Commonwealth in March 2020. "You have had the strangest Senior Year of any class at Austin Prep in its history," Bishop Mark told the Class of 2020.
We look forward to welcoming Bishop Mark to campus.
Annual Spring Band and Choir Concert is May 22nd
The Austin Prep Band and Choir students will be performing on Wednesday, May 22nd at 7:00 p.m. at the Greater Boston Stage Company in Stoneham. Come and see the creative efforts of our music program! Tickets are $5 and are available here.
Austin Prep Recognizes Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
As an Augustinian school rooted in the values of veritas, unitas, and caritas, Austin Prep will honor Asian and Pacific American Heritage Month by embracing the rich diversity of Asian and Pacific Islander cultures and traditions. Throughout the month, students will have opportunities to learn about the histories, accomplishments, and lived experiences of the Asian and Pacific American community through guest speakers. In the classroom, Asian and Pacific American voices will be elevated through the study of literature, artwork, and music created by Asian and Pacific Islander artists and authors. Students will also explore how Augustinian values intersect with various Asian and Pacific American religious and spiritual practices. By celebrating Asian and Pacific American cultures we aim to build community and foster greater intercultural understanding.
Austin Prep Celebrates Vocations Mass
Fr. Jeremy Hiers, O.S.A. with Siena Fantozzi '28 at the Vocations Mass.
Austin Prep celebrated an all school Mass for Augustinian Vocations on Tuesday, April 30th with Fr. Joe Narog, O.S.A. Although not his first visit to campus, Fr. Joe introduced Fr. Jeremy Hiers, O.S.A., who is assuming the role of Director of Vocations for the Augustinian Province of Saint Thomas of Villanova, a role formerly held by Fr. Joe. “Remember what you believe in. You believe in Jesus,” Fr. Jeremy noted in his homily. “He is bigger than us, and if we have struggles, he will help us succeed next time. He will help us work it out.”
“Start praying today about what God calls you to do. All of us will discover who God is calling us to be,” Fr. Jeremy added.
To top off the day, Fr. Art Johnson, O.S.A. was on campus for the Mass. Fr. Art has been a part of Austin Prep since its founding. It is always a great day when Fr. Art visits Austin Prep. You can view photos from the day here.

Oulton '24 Honored by Local Veterans Organization
Elena Oulton '24 was recognized last week as the iPods for Wounded Veterans Student Volunteer of the Year for going above and beyond in her efforts to support wounded veterans. Through her service, Elena coordinated articles, produced social media posts, and conducted numerous interviews with veterans to promote their charitable work. Her compassion and dedication helped to bring moments of solace to those who sacrificed so much for our country. Elena's caring community outreach is inspiring and epitomizes the value of caritas that we hope to instill in all our students.
Austin Prep has forged a strong bond with the iPods for Wounded Veterans over the years. This volunteer organization serves wounded American servicemen and servicewomen from the Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan Wars. Their mission is to make injured veterans’ long months of rehabilitation easier and less repetitive. Our volunteer teams hand-deliver gifts of electronics, headphones, magazines, and letters of encouragement. Students interested in volunteering can reach out Mr. Batista for more information on how to get involved.

8th Graders Take Part in Mock Trial
Prosecutor AJ Rizzo '28, with Judge Trevor Jones, present closing arguments to a jury of (faculty) peers.
Students in History faculty member Mr. Trevor Jones' 8th grade civics class performed a mock trial as an examination of a criminal court case. Students in the A and B block sections were assigned prosecution and defense sides respectively, and worked with their side to come up with a compelling case. The prosecution set out to decide that the mock-defendant, Maria Carvalho, planned and executed the murder of her husband, Armando; while the defense was charged with proving that the killing of Armando was out of self defense. Both sides planned meticulously to come up with questions and highlight evidence that would make their case more compelling. Meanwhile, teachers and administrators served as mock-jurors, weighing the merits of each side's arguments. Both teams put on a stellar performance, but in the end, the defense ended up pulling it out as Maria was found not guilty. Other 8th grade civics classes will have their mock trials this coming week.
Third Quarter Honor Roll Announced
The list of students who earned honors in the third quarter of Austin Prep's 2023-2024 academic year has been released. Congratulations to the students who earned this prestigious recognition in their pursuit of truth. #Veritas

Celebrating our Mothers During the Month of Mary
Happy Mother's Day to all those in the Austin Prep Community.
May is a special month for mothers, and that is especially the case at Austin Prep. On Wednesday, May 15th, the 7th grade will celebrate their annual May Crowning Prayer Service and May Tea, followed by the praying of the rosary by the entire school community on May 24th.
Is Mother's Day and the Month of Mary a coincidence or is there greater purpose? Just a few weeks ago on Good Friday we heard in the Holy Week Liturgy that Jesus entrusted his Mother to us as he told the disciples whom he loved "Son, behold your Mother," and to Mary, "Woman, behold your Son." Now, here we are, ready to celebrate Mother's Day. Can we separate Mother Mary's Motherhood from that of our own mothers? They both serve as our role models. As we think of the gifts for our mothers let us not forget the most precious gift of saying the Rosary or a Hail Mary Sunday and every day for our mothers.
Happy Mother's Day. 🌷

Class of 2028 Middle School Journey Concludes with Final Assembly
Class of 2028 members (l to r) Gideon Barnes, Zachary Oliver, David Robertson, Ella Gill, Elijah Janco, Sydney Klein, Henry Seabury, Alexandra Martinelli, and Patrick Prideaux were among the speakers at Tuesday's 8th Grade Final Assembly.
On Wednesday, Austin Prep eighth graders celebrated the conclusion of their Middle School Journey with the Class of 2028 Final Middle School Assembly. Head of School, James Hickey, Ph.D. and Head of Middle School Mr. Michael McLaughlin offered remarks, and those in attendance had an opportunity to enjoy the musical talents of Mark Tokarev '28 on piano, view a reflective slideshow created by Griffin Betts '28, Angela Barletta '28, and Nolan Pitta '28, and hear reflections on our core values of veritas, unitas, and caritas.
Theo Goldsmith '28, whose Middle School journey began this year as an 8th grader, offered appreciation for parents as he transitions from one phase of education to the next. "People don't often think of the middle as a very good place to be. Life in The Middle Ages was tough in many ways. Nobody wants to be in the middle seat on a long flight. And according to books and movies, middle school is stressful and unpleasant," Theo said. "But I'm here today, as someone with one older sister and one younger brother, to tell you that in reality, the middle can be great. Anyone who knows the Middle School at Austin Prep would have to agree, and a big reason for that is our supportive parents and families."
A full program from the ceremony can be found here, and photos can be viewed here.
Seventh Graders Welcome Guests to Campus for May Tea
Morgan Greene '29 at Wednesday's May Crowning Prayer Service.

Students and their guest are invited to bring flowers or a small plant to place around the Statue of Mary as a part of the celebration. Photos from the event can be viewed here.

Mandarin Field Trip Fosters Cultural Understanding
Austin Prep students explore the Yin Yu Tang exhibit at the Peabody Essex Museum.
On Thursday Mandarin 1 Honors students experienced Chinese culture and history first-hand during a field trip to the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA. The highlights were visiting the Yin Yu Tang exhibit – a 200-year-old Chinese house transported piece-by-piece from China – and the Asian Export Art gallery.
A scavenger hunt kept students actively engaged with the exhibits during the visit, and hands-on activities allowed students to try traditional Chinese games like mahjong, tangram puzzles, and Chinese chess. As students explored the historic house, they marveled at the horse head walls, the sky well, and the intricate wood and stone carvings, which are typical features of the Hui-style architecture. They also learned about the daily lives of its former occupants and how social and political changes in China over the years manifested in the home. Auspicious motifs, such as dragons, lions, vases, and the character for "longevity," were illustrated on various artifacts. Feng shui principles were demonstrated in the design of the house and its connection to the surrounding environment.
This local journey helped foster our students as emerging global citizens, reinforcing their roles as seekers of cross-cultural knowledge and champions of international understanding, and enabled them to appreciate the diversity of the world with focus, empathy, openness, and enriched knowledge.
Austin Prep Freshmen Participate in Model UN Conference
Jack Daggett '27 represented Russia in Austin Prep's Model UN Conference.
The Class of 2027 simulated debates on contemporary global issues during Austin Prep's third annual Model UN conference. Led by History Faculty Members Mr. Jon Whalen, Mr. Trevor Jones, Mr. Ed MacKenzie, and Mr. Garrett White, this event was planned to engage students in several weeks of extensive research and analysis of global issues. Students were tasked with consensus building through drafting, lobbying, and debating to pass a suitable ‘resolution’. Students were engrossed in playing the roles of delegates, speakers, and chairs, representing different countries and working together to reach a solution for the committee they were assigned. This year students participated in nine committees, focusing on current events, including the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence, the exploration of space, sustainable energy, and more. This year also introduced both a futuristic and historical committee where some students recreated the First Hague Convention of 1899, while others explored the governance of colonizing Mars in the year 2074. Overall, student-led debates were lively and the students worked hard to represent the perspective of their assigned nation and gained valuable global perspectives. You can view photos from the sessions here.
As Baseball Finishes 19-0, Coach Pollard Provides Insight into Success
The Austin Prep Baseball Team closed out the 2024 campaign with a perfect 19-0 record following victories this week over Phillips Andover and Buckingham Browne & Nichols. This year’s unblemished record brings the current unbeaten streak to 31 games dating back to the 2023 season. In 2024, the baseball team outscored opponents 182-32, with a team batting average of .515 and a team ERA of 1.48.
For this year’s senior class, it was an amazing run of success, with a four-year career record of 82-6, back-to-back (2023 and 2024) Massachusetts preseason #1 rankings, a #24 national ranking in 2022, and perhaps most notably, the 26-0 2022 season which culminated with the capturing of the 2022 MIAA Division 3 State Championship.
Congratulations to all those involved in the Austin Prep Baseball program for a tremendous year, and a special thank you to the Class of 2024.
