Spring Spirit Week Supports Caritas, Unitas

Friday's Pep Rally was the last Pep Rally for this crew as juniors.
Austin Prep celebrated Spirit Week March 31st through April 4th in a week that included fun events and charitable efforts in support of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The week was highlighted by the senior and faculty basketball game on Friday during Cougar Block (won by the faculty, just like every other Spirit Week challenge in recent years, but we digress), as well as the Friday afternoon winter pep rally.
Spirit Weeks at Austin Prep continue to be a philanthropic partnership between Student Government and the Office of Development benefitting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The mission of St. Jude is to advance cures, prevention, research and treatment for pediatric catastrophic diseases. Last year, Austin Prep raised over $40,000 for St. Jude and we appreciate the generosity of our students and parents in supporting St. Jude for their continued efforts in treating the toughest childhood diseases.
We hope everyone had a great week! View photos from Jersey Day and Twinning Day.
Austin Prep Hosts Career Day

Students in grades 10, 11, and 12 participated in the day, with faculty and staff serving as moderators. Students had the opportunity to attend two panel discussion sessions, covering a wide variety of professions, and enjoyed individual conversations with our Alumni.
Panel discussion sessions, broadly covered the following professions: Broadcasting/Media, Education, Engineering, Entrepreneurship/Business, Finance, First Responders, Government Relations/Politics, Health & Wellness, Legal Services, Marketing/Communications, Military, Performing Arts, Real Estate/Sales, Sciences, Technology, and Writing/Journalism.

Next Community Mass is Tomorrow

Join Austin Prep clergy Sunday for Mass.
The next Monthly Community Mass will be held tomorrow, Sunday, April 6th at 9:00 a.m. in the Chapel of St. Augustine. We encourage our school families who regularly attend Sunday Mass at their local parish to consider joining us for this monthly Sunday Mass. The Mass will give us an opportunity to meet each other and pray together, at least occasionally. We will join for a time of fellowship in the Dining Hall after Mass. To help us with our planning, we would ask families to RSVP by clicking here so we can take an appropriate count for the Coffee and Donut Hour.
Students are required to attend with their parents. We look forward to seeing you April 6th as we strengthen each other through this act of celebrating Mass together. Please note that this Mass will also serve as the Spring Varsity Sports Mass.

Austin Prep Pays Tribute to Mr. Stephen Williams

It was with a heavy heart that the Austin Prep community learned of the passing of Mr. Stephen Williams, a longtime member of Austin Prep’s Mathematics and Art and Design Departments, on April 12th. Mr. Williams joined the Austin Prep community in 2008, and had a tremendous impact on the lives of countless students who had him as a math teacher or mentor in the musical and performing arts.
Mr. Williams greatest impact will be the memories that he helped shape for numerous students, faculty, family, and friends as a result of his contributions to the arts at Austin Prep. Mr. Williams served as the musical director for countless school musicals and all school masses, often times leading the performances with his master piano playing ability. He connected with every student, regardless if they were first-time members of the choir or a lead in the annual school musical. Perhaps Mr. Williams’ most memorable achievement at Austin Prep was serving as the choir director for two Austin Prep pilgrimages to Rome, where students performed at some of the most sacred churches in the Eternal City and sang in the Piazza San Pietro for Pope Francis.
In honor of Mr. Williams, and to provide students and staff the opportunity to pay their respects to Mr. Williams and to attend the funeral mass, Austin Prep classes were cancelled on Wednesday, April 23rd. The number of students, staff, families and alumni who attended the funeral was a testament to the impact Mr. Williams had on the lives of many.
In your kindness please continue to keep Mr. Williams and the entire Williams family in your prayers as we mourn and remember the teacher who had a profound impact on our school community.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon him. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
Catholic World Mourns Pope Francis

Pope Francis with the Austin Prep Choir on New Years Eve, 2022.
We join together as a community in prayer and mourning following the passing of Pope Francis, the beloved shepherd of the Catholic Church. His life was a profound witness to compassion, humility, and justice—values that resonate deeply with our Austin Prep mission and our core values of veritas, unitas and caritas.
In this spirit, Austin Prep will offer a Mass on Tuesday, April 29th, for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis. The Mass will be led by Fr. Jeremy Hiers, O.S.A., Vocation Director and Justice and Peace Director with the Augustinian Province of St. Thomas of Villanova. During this Mass, we will also pray for the repose of the soul of Mr. Williams, a faculty member of the Austin Prep community. His presence in our school community will be deeply missed, and we lift him and his loved ones in prayer.
Austin Prep had a special connection to Pope Francis as a result of two choir pilgrimages to Rome, where students performed at some of the most sacred churches in the Eternal City and sang in the Piazza San Pietro for Pope Francis.
We continue to pray for the Catholic Church during this time of great loss, and ask God to guide us with the same spirit of love and mercy that Pope Francis so generously shared with the world.

Kuntz '25 Named National Merit Finalist

Nick Kuntz '25 and Mr. Jonathan Pollard '97, Associate Head of School.
Nicholas Kuntz '25 was recently named a National Merit Finalist based on his exceptional performance on the PSAT as a junior. Each year, over 1.3 million juniors from 21,000 high schools across the country take the PSAT. Just by taking the exam, these students are entered into the prestigious National Merit scholarship competition. From the pool of 1.3 million students, 16,000 students advanced in the competition and were named Semifinalists. This distinction was awarded to less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and Nick was one of the students who achieved semifinalist standing. As a finalist, Nick is competing against 15,000 other students for one of the 6870 National Merit Scholarships.
National Merit Scholarship winners of 2025 will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in late April and concluding in July. These scholarship recipients will join more than 382,000 other distinguished young people who have earned the Merit Scholar title. In addition to PSAT scores, a student's academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received are considered. Congratulations, Nick!
Tolle Lege - Interact Club Shares Love of Reading

The Austin Prep Interact Club just completed the Rotary Readers Literacy Project. Club members played a big role in the success of this year's initiative. The students spent an entire club block packaging more than 400 bags with free books for Kindergarten students at Reading and North Reading public schools. They then joined Rotarians and visited the Kindergarten classrooms to read to the students and deliver the bags with the new books for their home libraries.
The literacy project is one of many community efforts the Interact Club has taken part in this year. The club has also served at Bread of Life, Artis Senior Center, and supported a student-run toiletry drive in the fall. Next up the club will put their creativity to good use by decorating lunch bags with encouraging messages, bible verses, and drawings. The bags will be used for food donations at area shelters.
The Austin Prep Interact Club is sponsored by Reading Rotary and moderated by Mrs. Lisa Simmons, Director of Admissions. The club provides a platform for students to engage in community service, develop leadership skills, and understand the importance of being a good global citizen. Rotary is an international service organization of volunteers who focus on creating a positive impact in our community, our country and throughout the world.
Pollard's 100 Games Marked With Unprecedented Success

This past week included Jonathan Pollard's '97 100th game at the helm of the Austin Prep Baseball program, a stretch marked by unprecedented success within both the MIAA and the NEPSAC. With a record of 92-8, Coach Pollard's tenure is highlighted by the undefeated (26-0) MIAA Division 3 State champion team in 2022 and the undefeated (19-0) 2024 NEPSAC season.
The Coach Pollard era ironically got off to a delayed start. Named head baseball coach in September 2019, it took nearly a year and a half for Coach Pollard to coach his first game due to the cancellation of the official 2020 season due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The time off was well spent, however, as during that period the Austin Prep's Lower Fields Athletic Complex, home to baseball, boys and girls tennis, and other athletics and student programs, was completed. The facility provided additional playing and practice opportunities for students and served as the foundation of this new era of Austin Prep baseball success.
Once officially able to get to work on the field, Coach Pollard led the team to a 19-2 record in 2021 followed by the state championship in 2022. Austin Prep's 2023 debut in the NEPSAC concluded with an 18-4 record before the undefeated 2024 team from a year ago. The current 2025 season is off to another strong start, with a 10-2 record through Coach Pollard's 100th game. Along the way, the program has received countless pre and post season state, regional and national rankings and acknowledgments while producing numerous college baseball bound student-athletes, as well as the creation of the baseball operations program which provides students the opportunity to gain skills by supporting the program through various game management and promotional initiatives.
We look forward to the next 100 games and more!
