Austin Prep Pays Tribute to Mr. Stephen Williams

Austin Prep Pays Tribute to Mr. Stephen Williams

It was with a heavy heart that the Austin Prep community learned of the passing of Mr. Stephen Williams, a longtime member of Austin Prep’s Mathematics and Art and Design Departments, on April 12th. Mr. Williams joined the Austin Prep community in 2008, and had a tremendous impact on the lives of countless students who had him as a math teacher or mentor in the musical and performing arts.

Mr. Williams greatest impact will be the memories that he helped shape for numerous students, faculty, family, and friends as a result of his contributions to the arts at Austin Prep. Mr. Williams served as the musical director for countless school musicals and all school masses, often times leading the performances with his master piano playing ability. He connected with every student, regardless if they were first-time members of the choir or a lead in the annual school musical. Perhaps Mr. Williams’ most memorable achievement at Austin Prep was serving as the choir director for two Austin Prep pilgrimages to Rome, where students performed at some of the most sacred churches in the Eternal City and sang in the Piazza San Pietro for Pope Francis.

In honor of Mr. Williams, and to provide students and staff the opportunity to pay their respects to Mr. Williams and to attend the funeral mass, Austin Prep classes were cancelled on Wednesday, April 23rd. The number of students, staff, families and alumni who attended the funeral was a testament to the impact Mr. Williams had on the lives of many.

In your kindness please continue to keep Mr. Williams and the entire Williams family in your prayers as we mourn and remember the teacher who had a profound impact on our school community.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon him. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
