Dr. Kuykendall to Host Webinar for Parent Community

As a part of Austin Prep’s continued celebration of Black History Month, Dr. Crystal Kuykendall will be hosting a special webinar for our parent community on Wednesday, February 24 at 7:00 p.m.

Through brief explorations of historical components and developments, Dr. Crystal Kuykendall will provide a thought-provoking overview of some of the benefits the study of Black history will bring to members of the Austin Prep community. With a contextual understanding of the many ways the Austin Prep mission is enhanced through connections with the past and assessments of present realities, lives will be enriched. In fortifying the foundation for the future of Austin Prep students who will “lift as they climb,” this historical overview and frank discussion will inform and also inspire.

Dr. Kuykendall, a distinguished author, educator, speaker, attorney and thought leader, joined the Austin Prep team in the Summer of 2020. No stranger to our campus, she served as the 2020 St. Augustine Lecturer and deeply impressed faculty and students with her powerful storytelling and warm personality. Dr. Kuykendall has also taught at Seton Hall University and Montclair State University and is the former Executive Director of the National Alliance of Black School Educators. She has also served as the Director of Urban & Minority Relations for the National School Boards Association and the Director of the Citizens Training Institute of the National Committee for Citizens in Education.

Since her initial visit to Austin Prep, Dr. Kuykendall has engaged with faculty, staff, and students as we continue our dialogue to advance diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives on campus. To learn more about Dr. Kuykendall and the work she has done with the Austin Prep community, click here.
