Center For Integrated Learning

At Austin Prep, our Center for Integrated Learning empowers students who learn differently to thrive academically and personally. Students in grades 6–12 can access tailored support, coaching, and accommodations in a calm, welcoming environment. Guided by Augustinian values, our team helps students strengthen skills, build confidence, discover strategies for success, and cultivate habits to support their lifelong learning.

Guiding Students at Every Step

Rooted in the belief that students who learn differently possess unique strengths and immense potential, the Student Integrated Learning Program is dedicated to supporting their academic and personal growth. Guided by the Augustinian values of unitas, caritas and veritas, the Center for Integrated Learning fosters an inclusive learning community of unity, compassion, and authenticity where every student is recognized, valued, and empowered.

Through specialized instructional practices and individualized services – such as evidence-based academic tutorials, executive function coaching, and the provision of reasonable accommodations and accessibility resources – we promote equitable access to the full learning experience. Our innovative, data-informed, and compassionate approach affirms diverse ways of learning. By encouraging and enabling Austin Prep students to build on their strengths, contend with adversity, and pursue their goals with confidence, we aim to promote persistence, resilience, and a lifelong passion for learning.

The Student Integrated Learning Program officially launched at the start of the 2025–2026 Academic Year, a key initiative of the Austin Prep 2024–2029 Strategic Plan made possible through the generosity of benefactors committed to advancing learning for all students.

Three Levels of Student Support

Austin Prep provides a tiered system of academic support designed to meet every student’s needs — from general guidance available to all learners, to the Center for Integrated Learning accommodations and targeted services that help students who learn differently to thrive.

These offerings represent just a few examples of how Austin Prep promotes academic growth and builds confidence beyond the classroom.

1. General Support for Every Student (included in tuition)

Available to all Austin Prep students as part of the school’s academic program, these services are offered broadly across departments — not through the Center for Integrated Learning — and help every learner strengthen study habits, stay organized, and build confidence.

  • Advisory — A regular touchpoint several times each week where students receive guidance, reflect on growth, and build the social and emotional foundation for success at Austin Prep and beyond.
  • Cougar Academic Training (CAT) — A peer-led, six-week support program for grades 6–9 that reinforces classroom learning, study skills, and time management.
  • Office Hours — Dedicated time for students to meet with teachers for extra help or clarification.
  • Peer Tutoring — Student-to-student academic assistance that promotes collaboration and mentorship.
  • Austin Mentors Program — Upper-class students guiding younger peers through academic and personal transitions.
2. Academic Accommodations (no additional charge)

For students with a documented physical or learning diagnosis, the Integrated Learning Center provides accommodations at no extra cost to ensure equitable access to learning and assessment. For example:

  • Extended Time on Tests — Additional time to complete in-class assessments. Extended time does not apply to assignments.
  • Reduced-Distraction Testing — Quiet environments that promote focus during assessments.
  • Assistive Technology — Tools such as screen readers or speech-to-text software that help students access content or demonstrate their knowledge.
3. Expanded Learning Support Services (fee for service)

The Integrated Learning Center provides targeted instruction and individualized academic support for students seeking to strengthen their skills.

  • Dyslexia Support — Tutorials that strengthen reading and writing through evidence-based methods.
  • Alternate English and History Courses — Small, structured classes aligned with the Austin Prep curriculum, offering support for diverse learning profiles.
  • Executive Functioning Support in Small Groups — Sessions focused on organization, time management, planning, and task completion.
  • Academic and Executive Functioning Coaching — One-on-one meetings that help students build personalized study, organization, and self-management strategies.

Learning Support Offerings for the 2025-2026 Academic Year

These à la carte programs are optional, expanded Learning Support Offerings which families can choose to opt into, based on their child’s learning needs.

What Parents Are Saying

Hear directly from parents whose children have found confidence, community, and success through the Austin Prep Center for Integrated Learning.

Partnering with Families for Student Success

At Austin Prep, we believe that collaboration between families and our Integrated Learning team is key to every student’s success. We encourage parents to reach out early to discuss their child’s learning needs so that our team can provide the most effective support from the start. Early communication allows us to build a partnership that promotes a smooth, supportive, and empowering transition for every student.

Students with learning differences or diagnosed disabilities are strongly encouraged to share relevant documentation—such as an IEP, 504 plan, or neuropsychological evaluation—when applying to Austin Prep. This information helps our team determine the most appropriate level of support, which may include developing an Austin Prep Accommodation Plan, providing individualized or specialized support through our Learning Support Offerings, or connecting students with additional learning opportunities and resources. This support helps facilitate full and equitable access to the classroom experience.

All materials are reviewed confidentially by the Integrated Learning team and are not shared with the Admission Committee.

Student Integrated Learning Program Staff

The Saint Ambrose Fellows are teachers specially trained to walk with students on their learning journey. Led by Jennifer Brogan, M.Ed., and supported by Laurie Ford, M.Ed., along with Saint Ambrose Fellow Specialist Tasha Scaplen, this distinguished group helps students who learn in different ways, need extra support, or seek guidance to grow in confidence and skill. Like St. Ambrose, who guided St. Augustine, our Fellows mentor, listen, and encourage students to discover their own path to success.

Whether you need help connecting ideas, figuring out how to study, or simply someone to cheer you on, the Saint Ambrose Fellows are here to walk beside you — one step at a time.
