Fabrication Lab
The Fabrication Lab at Austin Prep is a hands-on digital fabrication space where students design, prototype, and build with purpose. Developed in summer 2024 through the transformation of an underused campus space, the lab was created as an important first step toward a future makerspace while immediately expanding opportunities for authentic, project-based learning.
Today, the Fabrication Lab serves as a dynamic school-wide resource where students move from concept to digital design to physical creation. Through 3D printing, laser cutting, and computer-aided design, students develop technical fluency while strengthening problem-solving, collaboration, and creative confidence.

What Is the Fabrication Lab?
The Fabrication Lab is a digital fabrication studio equipped with professional-grade tools that reflect those used in higher education and industry. Students use CAD software to create original designs, then bring those ideas into physical form through 3D printing and laser cutting. In the process, they learn to work with materials, refine digital models, troubleshoot challenges, and understand the relationship between design and production.
Rooted in Austin Prep’s mission to inspire hearts to unite, minds to inquire, and hands to serve, the Fabrication Lab gives students meaningful opportunities to learn by making. It is a space where curiosity leads to discovery, and where students gain not only technical skills, but also the confidence to think critically, work collaboratively, and create with intention.

“Our students move from idea to digital design to physical creation. In a world where technology shapes every industry, giving students the confidence and skills to turn their ideas into reality isn't just enriching their education. It's preparing them for the future.”
