Science Fair

The Grade 8 Science Fair is a culminating Middle School experience that transforms classrooms into a showcase of student-driven scientific inquiry. Through hypothesis development, experimentation, data analysis, engineering design, and public presentation, students investigate real-world questions across a broad range of scientific disciplines.

What begins as an idea in the lab culminates in an evening of formal presentation, when families, faculty, and judges move through a gallery of poster-style exhibits designed and presented entirely by students. The experience emphasizes curiosity, precision, problem-solving, and communication, inviting students to see themselves not only as learners, but as researchers, engineers, and innovators.

What Is the Grade 8 Science Fair?

The Grade 8 Science Fair is an annual Austin Prep tradition held each February, showcasing the independent research of the entire eighth-grade class. Students pursue original investigations rooted in authentic curiosity, applying the knowledge and skills developed in science and math to questions that matter to them.

Working independently, students maintain digital lab notebooks, collect and document primary data, and translate their findings into clear visuals, graphs, and professionally printed posters. Guided by their science teachers and supported by Austin Prep’s STEM faculty, students learn how scientific research unfolds through disciplined experimentation, thoughtful revision, and evidence-based conclusions.

Real-world scientific inquiry invites students to explore complex questions through research, experimentation, engineering design, and public presentation.
