What grades are included in Austin Prep’s Upper School?
Austin Prep’s Upper School serves students in grades 9–12. The Upper School is part of Austin Prep’s connected grades 6–12 community in Reading, Massachusetts, where students continue to grow through rigorous academics, student life, athletics, arts, service, leadership, and college preparation.
Is Upper School the same as high school?
Yes. At Austin Prep, Upper School refers to the high school years, grades 9–12. Families may see the terms Upper School and high school used in different contexts, but on this page, Upper School refers to students applying for grades 9–12.
How do families begin the Upper School application process?
Families begin by submitting the Inquiry Form. Once the form is submitted, an Admissions Portal account is created. Through the Admissions Portal, families can schedule a visit and complete the application for admission. Current Austin Prep parents can log in to the Admissions Portal and select “Add New Application.”
What happens after we submit an inquiry?
After submitting an inquiry, families can use the Admissions Portal to continue the application process, schedule a student/family visit, and access next steps from the Admissions Team. The portal is also where families can return to complete application materials and view admissions updates.
When is the Upper School application deadline?
The priority application deadline for Upper School applicants is December 15, 2026. Decision notifications are released at the end of January and are accessed through the Admissions Portal. Applications completed after the priority deadline are reviewed on a rolling basis.
Can families visit campus during the application process?
Yes. Prospective families are encouraged to experience Austin Prep in person through admissions events, Journey Days, and student/family visits. Tours are offered Monday through Friday in both the morning and afternoon, and reservations are required. Families may contact the Office of Admissions to schedule a visit.
What entrance exams does Austin Prep accept for Upper School admission?
Austin Prep accepts SSAT, ISEE, and HSPT scores for Upper School admission. Austin Prep also hosts the HSPT on campus. Austin Prep’s HSPT school code is 40. Families with questions about testing options, registration, or score submission may contact the Office of Admissions for guidance.
Does Austin Prep accept the Standard Application Online?
Yes. Austin Prep accepts the Standard Application Online, also known as the SAO. Families who prefer that application option can use the SAO application link provided on the page.
What should transfer applicants know?
For transfer students, a standardized test such as the PSAT, PACT, SAT, or ACT is not required but is encouraged. Families considering a transfer to Austin Prep’s Upper School should contact the Office of Admissions for guidance on the application process.
What support is available for Upper School students?
Austin Prep offers support through the Richard J. Meelia ’67 Center for Integrated Learning, where students in grades 6–12 can access tailored support, coaching, and accommodations. Austin Prep also has an Advisory Program designed to ensure that students are known, supported, and guided by a trusted mentor throughout their Middle and Upper School journey.
How does Austin Prep support college preparation?
Austin Prep’s College Counseling program begins supporting students in grade 9 with the transition to high school, course and activity guidance, early college planning, and summer exploration. The program continues throughout the Upper School years as students prepare for college applications and decision-making.
