Middle School

Dear Families,

During this time of educational interruption, many families have inquired about the opportunity to enroll at Austin Prep for the remainder of the school year and take advantage of our already established Remote Teaching and Learning (RTL) Program. Though we would love to accommodate all applicants, we simply cannot enroll every student without compromising our academic program. For those students who have already been accepted for our 2020-2021 academic year, however, we felt it was mission-aligned that you should be the first group to whom we open our doors at pro-rated tuition to reflect the remainder of the academic year.

Our patron, St. Augustine penned, “if you aspire to great things, begin with the little ones.” As we launch this initiative, we do so following our patron’s sage advice to “begin with the little ones.”

In examining our Middle School enrollment, Austin Prep evaluated that it has the capacity to enroll a limited number of incoming students into the existing Austin Prep schedule. This opportunity will permit a limited number of incoming Middle School students to begin their Austin Prep Journey this spring. One of the hallmarks of Austin Prep is our low teacher-student ratio and small class size. Should we be able to return to campus this spring, students will be able to attend classes at Austin Prep and be immersed in the full Austin Prep experience.

Austin Prep’s Remote Teaching and Learning environment follows a modified rotating block schedule which includes Austin Prep’s hallmark advisory program. Classes are 45-minutes in length and allows teachers to interact with their students to discuss concepts, skills, and assessments. There are four classes a day, and advisory meets on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

As an incoming student, this spring, you’ll be assigned a faculty-advisor to assist you in your transition. You’ll meet as a group of no more than ten students on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning. Your advisor will also arrange individual appointments throughout the week to assist you in your transition to Austin Prep this spring.

Students will be placed in six academic courses: English, Mathematics, Science, History, Theology, and a Language & Culture course. The seventh period in the rotation will be an off period to allow for students to further connect with their advisor and work on assignments. All of the courses are graded and will include homework, classwork, and other assessments delivered through the Zoom video conferencing app and the Google Suite.

There are select openings within the Middle School program for students currently in Grades 5, 6, 7, and 8. Please contact the Office of Admissions at steve.silverthorn@austinprep.org to enroll in this program or if you have questions.

The fourth marking period begins at Austin Prep on Monday, March 30. If you are interested, please contact me by Friday, March 27 at 5 P.M. Space will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

All the best,

Steve Silverthorn,

Director of Admissions
