Alumni Director's Note

Dear Austin Prep Alumni,
As the new year began, we kicked off our Alumni Spotlight feature each Friday on Austin Prep’s social media channels. You can view the weekly spotlight on Austin Prep’s Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn accounts. We have highlighted alumni from 1968 to 2022. From accomplished careers to game winning goals, our alumni continue to impact the world around them daily. Personally, I’ve been inspired by our alumni community; I hear from you weekly, not to speak of personal accomplishments, but humbly mentioning classmates who have done some wonderful things. Seeing how proud you are of what others are doing is truly special. The alumni of Austin Prep are living out the Augustinian mission of veritas, unitas, and caritas – truth, unity, and love! I look forward to continuing on this journey together with you and sharing your story. Please reach out at any time for any reason.
Sincerely,

Alumni Spotlight: Mac Cerullo '08

Mac Cerullo '08 has turned a lifelong passion for sports and storytelling into a prominent journalism career covering Boston’s beloved teams. For the past three seasons, Cerullo has been working as one of the Boston Herald’s two Red Sox beat reporters. In this highly competitive role, he reports from spring training in Fort Myers, delivers daily coverage from Fenway Park, and tracks the storylines that define one of baseball’s most historic franchises. As the upcoming baseball season kicks off, Mac will not only be preparing for spring training but will also be getting ready to run his first ever Boston Marathon. He will be running in support of the Boston Children’s Hospital Miles for Miracles program. Around three years ago, Mac’s 17-month-old son Anthony was rushed to Boston Children’s with a fever of 105. The doctors quickly determined it was appendicitis and were able to move quickly, and Anthony was back on his feet in a few days. Boston Children’s Hospital will always hold a special place in their hearts. Running to help support the hospital is the least that Mac could do. The Austin Prep community wishes you the best of luck, and we are cheering you on!
Austin Prep Alumni Set Day of Giving Record!

Students celebrate receiving another gift on our annual Day of Giving.
The Austin Prep alumni community made a significant impact on our Annual Day of Giving this past November. We had a record number of alumni donors, almost doubling the participants from our Day of Giving in 2024. Thank you to all who joined us! Your support makes a difference in the lives of our students. It’s never too late to make a gift, join your fellow alumni, and make an impact today. You are making futures possible!
Class of 2020 Celebrates 5th Reunion

Austin Prep's Class of 2020 the Wednesday evening before Thanksgiving.
The Class of 2020 celebrated their 5-Year Reunion on Wednesday, November 26. Dr. Hickey was honored to host the class at Austin Prep for a reception and toast to kick off their night. Over 60 classmates then made their way into Boston to celebrate together. The Class of 2020 missed out on many celebrations in the final months of their senior year. It was great to see their smiling faces back on campus enjoying each other's company. A special thank you to Elizabeth Boucher '20 and Cecilia Hall '20 for all their help in organizing this fun night!
Class of 1985 Celebrates 40th Reunion

Austin Prep's Class of 1985 the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
On Saturday, November 29, the Class of 1985 gathered at Austin Prep for their 40th Reunion. The evening began with a tour of campus and ended with a wonderful dinner. Former long-time faculty member and alumnus, Jay Dowd '69, stopped by to visit with his former students. A highlight for those in attendance. A special thank you to John Martin '85 and Ed Veno '85 for all their help to make this reunion a success. We look forward to your 45th!
Class of 2025 Alumni Breakfast

Austin Prep's Class of 2025 the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
Austin Prep continued the tradition of welcoming back to campus our newest alumni class for breakfast the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Over 80 members of the Class of 2025 gathered in the Dining Hall to connect with classmates, faculty and staff as a kick-off to the holiday weekend. It was great to see so many of you. Thank you for coming back to campus!
Champions of Giving
Generosity is more than philanthropy – it is a legacy of faith, community, and hope for the next generation. Champions of Giving shines a spotlight on the donors of Austin Prep, celebrating the individuals and families whose contributions have strengthened the school, enriched student experiences, and ensured that the values of truth, unity, and love continue to thrive. This series shares their stories: who they are, why they were inspired to give, and how their generosity has made a lasting difference. From new facilities to scholarships, from leadership to community service, each Champion of Giving demonstrates the power of supporting Austin Prep. We invite you to be inspired by their impact and consider how you, too, can shape the future of our students.
In a recent installment of our Champions of Giving series, we featured Tom Flynn ’83, whose profile uniquely highlighted the multi-generational influence of Austin Prep’s faculty, helping us to understand the lasting impact of teachers and the profound influence they have on their students. The teachers for whom he named classrooms – Roger Stone, Bob Hennessy, and Gary Mackiewicz – each committed around fifty years of dedicated service to Austin Prep. Though they are all retired, their combined 150-year-plus tenure is so abiding that many recent graduates of Austin Prep who are still in college were taught, mentored, and inspired by the very educators Tom honors.
We invite you to watch Tom’s story, celebrate Austin Prep teachers – pillars of our community – and reflect on how their dedicated service across classrooms and across generations has shaped and inspired all of us who are blessed to be part of this remarkable School.

Austin Prep Spring Spirit Week Car Display

Austin Prep students celebrating "Decades Day" as part of a past Spirit Week celebration. Which decade will have the best cars at the Car Show?
As a fun addition to our Spring Spirit Week this year, we will have a display of classic cars representing different decades. Our students will focus on learning about different decades throughout Spirit Week. It will be a memorable learning experience for students to see, hear, and touch the actual cars that were driven in the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and beyond. If you have a car you would like to bring or know of someone who does, please contact Darren Stewart at Darren.stewart@austinprep.org or 781.944.4900 x4862. It will be taking place on Friday, April 17th.
Alumni Spotlight: Dr. Robert Ficociello '85

Dr. Robert Ficociello '85 has just published his first children’s picture book. Lucia and Marcus Go to Space: Jupiter! with Warren Publishing. “Inspired by my children’s [yes, Lucia and Marcus] natural inquisitiveness, I wanted to create a narrative that shows a confident female leader and a gregarious male educator to young readers 4-8 years of age.” He hopes that these characters open up the world of science to young readers with eagerness to explore their imaginations. The plan is to continue the Lucia and Marcus series, exploring other planets in our solar system before moving on to teaching about cities and national parks. Ficociello is a professor of English at Holy Family.
Austin Open Golf Tournament

Parents, past parents, alumni and friends. All are invited to join us at the annual Austin Prep Open Golf Tournament.
The 38th Annual Golf Open will take place on May 18, 2026. Over the years, proceeds from the Austin Prep Open have supported numerous improvements across campus. Proceeds from this year’s tournament will support the addition of a new science laboratory within our Science Wing, expanding hands-on learning opportunities and strengthening our science curriculum. This new lab will enhance instructional space, foster innovation, and help prepare students for advanced study in science. We invite you to review this year’s tournament brochure by visiting our website. For any questions, event inquiries, or sponsorships, please contact Susan Belanger, Assistant Head of School Administration & Special Projects at sbelanger@austinprep.org.
