Alumni Making Headlines

On June 2, the FDA issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for Siemens’ laboratory-based total antibody test to detect SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, including IgM and IgG, in blood. Siemens developed this high-quality, highly accurate test to help address a critical public health need. Their data demonstrated 100% sensitivity and 99.8% specificity, enabling identification of patients who have developed an immune response indicating recent infection or prior exposure. Jim Martin '70, Senior Research Scientist at Siemens, is part of the global team that helped develop the assay and support associated diagnostic systems, as well as training and customer support in clinical diagnostics.

Lt. Col. Mike Lynch '98 will relinquish command of the 337 Air Control Squadron at Tyndall Air Force Base to Lt. Col. Donald VanSlyke and will next serve at the Pentagon on the Air Force Headquarters staff. The virtual Change of Command Ceremony will be streamed live on Friday, June 5, at 9:30 a.m. EDT. New Summer Session at Austin Prep

We are excited to share details about Austin Prep Summer Session 2020. Building on the success of our Remote Teaching and Learning model this spring, the Summer Session is an innovative virtual program for both Middle and Upper School students. It offers a series of engaging courses designed to sustain students’ enthusiasm for learning and maintain connections throughout the summer months.

A menu of enrichment courses approaches familiar disciplines through a unique lens. Courses such as Geography Through the Zombie Apocalypse or Baseball and 20th Century American History allow students to think critically and creatively while exploring engaging topics in depth.

Introductory and review-style courses provide structure and support as students strengthen their skills in Mathematics and World Languages.

With classes capped at 15 students and led by Austin Prep faculty, students benefit from an engaging environment that supports continued academic growth. In addition to Austin Prep students, classmates may include students from other Augustinian schools and schools across the country, broadening perspectives on both content and the world.

Baccalaureate Mass for the Class of 2020

Friday, May 29, was a beautiful day on the campus of Austin Prep as the community came together to celebrate Baccalaureate Mass in honor of the Class of 2020. All the details from the day can be read here .

Lower Fields Athletic Complex Project

Construction on the Lower Fields Athletic Complex has progressed throughout the spring, and the results are outstanding. We extend our sincere thanks to our generous benefactors for helping make this project a reality. The baseball field is complete, and the tennis courts are ready to be surfaced. We look forward to welcoming students back to campus and watching them compete in this exceptional new facility.
