Soccer - Middle School Boys
Mr. Karis is a graduate of both the Fay School and Noble and Greenough School. He then went on to Gettysburg College where he earned a B.A. in History and played on the Varsity Baseball Team for four years. Matt comes to Austin Prep most recently from the Eaglebrook School in Deerfield, MA where he was a History teacher, 3-sport coach, and dorm parent. Mr. Karis currently teaches Upper School history, moderates the Freshman class, runs the Model UN club, and coaches Middle School soccer.
Additionally, Mr. Karis will be working with the Cougars pitching staff this spring as the team's Pitching Coach. After graduating from Gettysburg in 2011, Coach Karis spent two seasons as the Pitching Coach for the Elms College Blazers in Chicopee, MA. Working with the pitchers on a daily basis on and off the field, Coach Karis helped groom a staff that set a program record for wins at the time. After his two year stint with the Blazers, Coach Karis began his teaching career at a boarding school in East Hampton, NY before returning to Massachusetts in Deerfield. Mr. Karis is excited to take on the challenge of a demanding MIAA schedule while working to develop aggressiveness as well as toughness with the talented Cougars pitching staff.
Coach Karis resides on the North Shore with his wife, who is also a teacher, and their two dogs. In his time off campus he can be found watching sports, running with his wife and dogs, at the beach, or playing a 40 game schedule of amateur baseball in the summer because he can't give it up. He is also working towards his Masters Degree from Endicott College in Athletic Administration.
