Mr. Diapella, an Austin Prep alum, graduated from Connecticut College in 2002 with a degree in English before pursuing his graduate work at UMass Lowell where he earned a Masters in Education with a specialization in Secondary English. Prior to Austin Prep, Mr. Diapella taught at Tewksbury Memorial High School and Chelmsford Memorial High School.
Throughout his educational career, Mr. Diapella has endeavored to discover the best ways to put educational ownership in the hands of his students. To that end, he was awarded an Austin Prep summer sabbatical in 2018 to attend the Exeter Humanities Institute at Philips Exeter where he was immersed in the Harkness Method which encourages student-led collaboration and discussion.
Mr. Diapella currently teaches two classes that he helped design: Discussion and Debate and a cross-curricular course entitled The American Experience which integrates the study of American History and Literature into a year-long course that touches on major themes. In both classes, Mr. Diapella employs the use of a Harkness Table.
