"The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page."
- St. Augustine
In the spirit of our patron, St. Augustine, Austin Prep has made a number of domestic and international trips available for students. Austin Prep students in Grades 6-12 have the opportunity to enrich their journeys through global travel. Recent international destinations have included: Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, France, Greece, Ecuador, Italy, New Zealand, Panama, Peru, the United Kingdom, and Vatican City.
The 2018-2019 school year took students across the globe. An immersive spring break service trip to Ecuador provided an opportunity for Upper School students to animate the Augustinian charism of caritas as they participated in projects to benefit a community nestled in the Andes. Middle School students engaged in a three-week study abroad program with schools from across the world in the United Kingdom. Summer 2019 kicked off with adventure-filled trips to Australia and New Zealand and a two-week cruise of the Greek Islands. Class capstone trips to Washington, DC, for eighth grade, New York City for juniors, and Disney World for seniors celebrate community and are likewise an extension of the campus experience.
2019-2020 itineraries include:
- Vatican Pilgrimage: The Austin Prep Chorus will sing at Masses with Pope Francis in Vatican City this Christmas season. Join the Chorus on this momentous visit!
- Spring Break Service Trip: Upper School students will travel to the American Southwest for a week-long service trip working with the National Parks Service and a Navajo Reservation.
- Middle School Study Abroad in the United Kingdom: Middle School students will join students from across the globe as part of the Independent Schools Cultural Alliance, an immersive three-week study abroad experience exposing students to the rich culture and history of England.
For more information about any of the trips, please be in touch with Mr. Michael McLaughlin, Head of Middle School. We invite you to learn about our students' experiences in their own words through their travel blogs.
