Three Austin Prep teachers are incorporating the lessons they learned from a special course run by the University of Notre Dame into their science and theology classes this year.

Mrs. Maria BlewittMs. Stacey Bishop (both Science Faculty) and Mr. Peter DeLuca (Theology Faculty) attended a very selective program sponsored by the university’s Institute for Church Life. More than 100 schools applied for this grant and Austin Prep was one of the schools selected.

Our teachers attended the week-long course in New Orleans, LA this summer, which entailed discussions with leading experts that challenged the notion that science and religion are in conflict, and performing laboratory work. Mrs. Blewitt, Ms. Bishop and Mr. DeLuca were awarded a “Nobel Prize in Physics” for their lab work! (They figured out a missing sub-atomic particle.)

Mr. Michael McLaughlin, Head of Middle School, helped secure the grant from the university, which is his alma mater.

In Theology in the Upper School, we begin with the student as an individual; as a reflective being who has been formed by various factors, sociological, psychological, and physiological. Each student has had different and unique experiences that will have formed different outlooks on life. As Theology educators, we deeply value what the gospel has to offer each individual in terms of fulfillment and growth.
